Our Heart's Home

Home is where the heart is, so the saying goes.

Now science can prove that. The HeartMath Institute has amazing research on how we are connected to the earth’s electromagnetic field. “The resonant frequency of the Earth’s magnetic field, these field line resonances, is exactly the same as the human heart rhythm when we’re in a coherent state.” -Rollin McCraty, Ph.D, director of research, HeartMath Institute.

As someone who has spent the majority of my life outside and with animals, this does not come as a giant shock, more like, “huh, think I always knew that! “ But as a closet science geek, this is wonderfully exciting news.

For a number of reasons, not the least of which being it gets me somewhat off the hook, or at least sounding slightly less crazy-forest-child.

Although, let’s be real. If I had the misfortune of being born five hundred years ago, as a red-haired empath who pets trees, talks to animals, and can hear plants, I would have most definitely been burned at the stake long ago.

Since thankfully the statute of limitations on that has run out and I’m most likely fairly safe, I’ll speak for my fellow long-ago fallen white witches and say, we are profoundly connected to our Mother. She is our heart, literally. And we her breath.

Being deeply present in nature has potent power to heal everything from a bad day taking care of your neighbor’s pot belly pig to serious levels of PTSD.

And is easily one of my favorite aspects of a well-lived Life.

Give yourself the gift of spending some time outside in our heart’s home. But without mentally writing tonight’s grocery list, or wondering how to tell your neighbor the mud Petunia tracked in to the living room is really not your fault.

Sit with presence. With intention. And with deep gratitude and appreciation for the unconditional care and connection this beautiful earth gives us whether we give back to her or not.

I’ll be sharing more about heart-brain coherence in the future, as it is a major part of my daily practice, and science-girl geekdom, but until then check out the wonderful work from HeartMath Institute.

Forest Bathe and Prosper, dear friends.
